Chapter 171 Workshop

Help Effect Systems Change & Ensure that State Agencies Provide Meaningful and Flexible Supports to Your Family

Chapter 171 of the Acts of 2002 is a law supporting individuals with disabilities and their families. This law directs the 7 named state agencies to make changes in the way they develop and provide services. The law gives individuals and families the opportunity to provide substantial consultation to the agencies that support them. The law also requires each state agency to develop an annual support plan that incorporates the substantial consultation provided to them, as well as describe how they will “change the way they do business” to meet the needs of the individuals they support.
